Grind Is Now Available on British Airways Flights

From July, Grind’s sustainable, speciality coffee will be served on all European British Airways flights from Heathrow and Gatwick.

We’ve taken London’s favourite coffee to the skies. From 18th July, our speciality coffee will be served on all short-haul British Airways flights from Heathrow and Gatwick, meaning millions of passengers will get to drink better coffee onboard.

And words cannot exPLANE how excited we are. (Not our best).

Coffee in the Sky

Weirdly and wonderfully, tasting is different at altitude: the air type and pressure changes our perception of flavours. So, we sent our Head of Coffee, Howey, into the air to do some coffee tasting on a plane so that we could develop a coffee range that tastes great even at 35,000ft.

During his trip to the sky, Howey found that the top fruit notes of coffee were slightly more mellow, but the bitterness was unchanged. The biggest aspect affected was sweetness, with notes like milk chocolate and caramel becoming less apparent compared to on the ground.

In the end, we chose an Arabica coffee with a more pronounced milky sweetness and higher fruit notes to give us a beautifully balanced cup in the sky.

What Can I Get on My Flight?

We’ve created different coffee blends exclusively for British Airways’ High Life Café. The range available to purchase on board consists of a Long BlackDecaf Black, and our ready-to-drink Iced Caramel Latte Can. Come August, passengers will also be able to purchase our favourite drink of all time, a Flat White.

The Long Black Coffee is rich and full-bodied with notes of chocolate, almond, and red apple. Great flavour, all on its own (with water, not just the granules).

The Decaf Black Coffee has all the same great flavour, minus the caffeine. Think smooth and sweet, with the same hints of milk chocolate and honey.

Our Iced Caramel Latte can features a double shot of our speciality-grade House Blend coffee, slow-steeped in cool water and naturally sweetened with the malty sweetness of caramel.

Coming August: The Flat White recreates our favourite coffee specifically for the sky. It’s creamy and chocolatey with naturally sweet notes of apricot and honey.

So next time you’re booking a flight, we’d suggest it’s a British Airways one. You can find out more about the products and pre-order your Grind coffee for your next short-haul flight here.
