In 2023, we set up our own charity, the Better Coffee Foundation®, as a commitment to undoing the damage caused by the global coffee industry. We recover ocean-bound plastic for every pod, can, or cup of coffee we sell.
Waving Goodbye to Ocean Plastic
We’re tackling the ocean pollution crisis by rescuing the equivalent weight of ocean-bound plastic with every coffee pod, iced coffee can, cold brew carton, cup of coffee (the list goes on) we sell. In 2023 and 2024 combined, we recovered 120,000kg of plastic in partnership with Ocean Co. That’s around 85,600,000 pods’ worth of plastic, which is quite a lot of pods.

By the end of the day, we will have recovered around 175kg of ocean-bound plastic. And we couldn’t do it without you.

Why Ocean Plastic?
Less than 10% of plastic waste is recycled globally. The rest is discarded, ending up in landfills and the ocean, killing millions of marine species and endangering marine life. We're helping to collect it before it has a chance to do its damage. Without action, there will be more plastic than fish in our waters by 2050.

What Happens to the Plastic?
Our partners at Ocean Co. collect, weigh, and sort ocean-bound plastic on our behalf, then recycle it according to its most valuable use. They operate in areas with the largest plastic collection gap, confronting the crisis in areas where it matters most.

Unsustainable coffee farming is also a major contributor to water pollution, which is why we only source coffee from farms that protect the environment. We all rely on clean water, so we’re helping keep it clean.

Not a pod person? We haven’t forgotten about you: our whole bean and ground coffee comes in compostable packaging, too. And our cold brew cartons, instant coffee tins, and iced coffee cans are all fully recyclable.
It’s crucial to us that all our coffee is ethically sourced from small-scale producers who farm sustainably.
